Springfield Armory® Hellion™ Awarded NRA’s American Rifleman Tactical Gun of the Year Award
GENESEO, ILL. (01/12/23) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce that the Hellion™ 5.56mm bullpup has been chosen as NRA Publications’ American Rifleman 2023 Golden Bullseye Tactical Gun of the Year.
Now in their 21st year, the NRA Publications Golden Bullseye Awards acknowledge the finest products available in the shooting sports. The winners are selected by a committee of NRA Publications staff, representing more than a century of collective experience in the shooting and hunting industry.
“We couldn’t be prouder that the Hellion has been given this esteemed award,” said Dennis Reese, CEO of Springfield Armory. “With this bullpup, Springfield took an internationally proven design and adapted it specifically for the needs of American shooters. This recognition is an honor for the entire team behind its development.”
Answering the call for superior ballistic performance in a short, adaptable platform, the Springfield Armory Hellion features a “bullpup” configuration where the action is located behind the trigger. The result is a firearm with an overall length of just 28.25″, while still possessing a 16” barrel.
The Hellion sports ambidextrous controls that work in concert with a reversible case ejection system, allowing it to be easily fired from either shoulder. The result? A 5.56mm that combines portability with performance. An adjustable gas system, AR-magazine compatibility, M-Lok® slots and the ability to accept standard AR-15-pattern grips round out the package.
“The Hellion represents a radically innovative take on 5.56mm performance, offering both impressive ballistic capabilities as well as an extremely portable package,” said Springfield Armory Vice President of Marketing, Steve Kramer. “We are honored that it has been recognized with such an esteemed award from the National Rifle Association.”
